مولانا ابوالکلام آزاد نے ’’ الہلا ل ‘‘ سے اردو صحافت کی عظمت کی بنیاد رکھی ۔ انہوں نے اس اخبار میں کئی مضامین ایک ہی عنوان سے لکھے ، جیسے ’’انسانیت موت کے دروازے پر‘‘ اس میں مشاہیر کے انجام زندگی کا صحیح نقشہ پیش کیا گیا ہے ۔ جو لوگ دنیا میں مناصب ومراتب کی انتہائی بلندیوں پر فائز ہوجاتے ہیں اور اپنے اوصاف و کمالات کی وجہ سے لوگوں کے دلوں میں جگہ بنا لیتے ہیں تو طبعی طور پر عام انسانوں کو یہ معلوم کرنے کی خواہش ہوتی ہے کہ ان کی زندگی کی ابتدا کیسے ہوئی اور موت کا سامنا کیسے کیا ۔ اس کتاب میں انتالیس مشہور شخصیات کا ذکر ہے ۔جن میں سے عشرہ مبشرہ میں سے بھی چند صحابہ کا ذکر ہے ۔ حضرت امام حسین کا ذکر خصوصی طور پر کیا گیا چونکہ ان کے واقعہ شہادت میں لوگوں کی عقیدت اور عظمت و شہرت کے تصور نے کچھ ایسے حالات شامل کردیے ہیں جو تاریخی اعتبار سے محل نظر ہیں ۔ اس لیے ان کے بیان تذکرہ میں مولانا نے انتہائی تحقیق و تفتیش سے کام لیا ہے ۔ اسی طریقے سے حجا ج بن یوسف کا خصوصی ذکر ہے کیونکہ جس بندہ نے ہزار وں مخلوق کو موت کے گھاٹ اتا را اس نے خود کیسے موت کا سامنا کیا؟ ایسی نایاب کتابیں بہت کم لکھی جاتی ہیں جس میں کسی کی بھی موت کا ذکر ہو چہ جائیکہ بڑے اشخاص کی موت کا ذکر کیا جائے۔
